Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) (Amendment No. 5) Rules 2001
In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 34 and 140 of the Road Traffic Act, the Minister for Transport hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) (Amendment No. 5) Rules 2001 and shall come into operation on 1st January 2002.
Amendment of rule 48
2.  The Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) Rules (R 5) are amended by renumbering rule 48 as paragraph (1) of that rule, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following paragraph:
“(2)  Where a licence issued in respect of a motor vehicle has expired, a new licence issued shall be displayed not later than 7 days (excluding any day which is a Sunday or a public holiday) after the expiry of the previous licence.”.
Amendment of rule 57
3.  Rule 57(5) of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) Rules is amended by deleting the words “Rules 48” and substituting the words “Rules 48 (1)”.
