Road Traffic (Temporary Private Hire Cars for Use During Weekends and Public Holidays) (Exemption) Order 1996
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 142 of the Road Traffic Act, the Minister for Communications hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Temporary Private Hire Cars for Use during Weekends and Public Holidays) (Exemption) Order 1996 and shall come into operation on 8th August 1996.
2. Section 101 of the Act shall not apply to any private motor car which —
(a)
is temporarily used as a private hire car —
(i)
from 7 p.m. on a Friday to 7 a.m. on the Monday immediately following; or
(ii)
from 7 p.m. on the eve of a public holiday to 7 a.m. on the day immediately following the public holiday;
(b)
when used as a private hire car, is not driven by the owner of the private motor car; and
(c)
has valid insurance cover for its use as a private hire car when it is so used.
