—(1) Any person who acts in contravention of or fails to comply with any provision of this Act or of any rules made thereunder shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction where no special penalty is provided to a fine not exceeding $500 and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.
(2) If any person acting in contravention of or failing to comply with any provisions of this Act or of any rules made thereunder is a company, the managing director or other manager in Singapore of the company who is privy to the offence shall be liable to the like punishment.
