5.
—(1) Every candidate applying for a Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft shall —
(a)
be not less than 18 years of age;
(b)
have approved sea service of not less than 12 months or have attended an approved training course and have approved sea service of not less than 9 months; and
(c)
be free from any physical or other disability which will render him incapable of performing the duties required of him in a survival craft.
(2) Any person who cannot satisfy the requirements of paragraph (1)(b) may, with the consent of the Director, be allowed to sit for the examination. If such a person passes the examination, he shall not be issued with a certificate until he has satisfied the requirements of that sub-paragraph.
(3) The syllabus for the examination is specified in the Schedule.
